Life’s Railway to Heaven is a classic American gospel and folk hymn written in 1891 with lyrics by Mason Ellis Abbey (M.E. Abbey) and music composed by Charles Davis Tillman. In this banjo arrangement, we’ll look at a version inspired by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band recording, in the key of B (Capo 4 – standard tuning), suited to the intermediate picker. There are 2 variations, one for each half of the verse progression. The breaks are often split, and the second half is often played as the kick off. We’ll cover both variations in the lesson.
