In this sixth volume of Bluegrass licks on the guitar, we’ll follow up on the previous lesson in the key of C. This time we’ll cover licks for the 1 4 5 & 6m chords (C F G Am) both up & down the neck that incorporate the major blues scale, arpeggios, triads, all while building on concepts and ideas from the previous lessons.
There is an example break that we’ll pull all the lick ideas out of, and we’ll analyse the ideas against both the chord progression and the scales/arpeggios, working through the thought process. We’ll also cover the major blues scale extended pattern and 3 variations of the Am arpeggio.
We’ll thoroughly break down all the licks and ideas in the lessons, but having a knowledge of the licks from the previous lessons will also help. While this lesson is aimed at the advanced picker, players of all levels will be able to gain valuable insight into the process of improvising around chords in a Bluegrass style.
