Big Sciota: Guitar Lesson

Howdy! Big Sciota is one of my all time favourite fiddle tunes. It has a sweet sounding melody and is great fun to play! In this Big Sciota: Guitar Lesson we’ll take a look at an intermediate guitar arrangement of the tune, played in the key of G. The melody sits in the open position for Part A, using the G major scale, and moves a little further up the neck in Part B. As part of this lesson we’ll also take a look at how to play the scale, plus the arpeggios for the chords used in the tune.

Lesson #1:

  • Learn the melody for part A;
  • Play through the G Major scale – two octaves, open position.

Lesson #2:

  • Learn the melody for part B;
  • Look at the ornaments used in the arrangement (hammer-ons & slides);
  • Practice a double picking exercise for the G major Scale – two octaves, open position;
  • Learn the arpeggios for the chords within the tune (Open Position – G, D, C & Em).
