Lesson 12: Introduction To Alternating Picking (Angeline The Baker) Flatpicking Crash Course

G’day! In lesson 12 of the 102 Flatpicker’s Crash Course, we’ll dive into alternating picking. This is the technique that allows us to pick quicker rhythms & phrases comfortably.

The first 11 lessons can be found here 101 Flatpicking Crash Course and here 102 Flatpicking Crash Course.

Up to this point we’ve learnt basic tunes that have only used rhythms that require us to pick a down stroke. Typically, when we have a note that falls on the down beat, we’ll pick down, when the note falls on the up beat, we pick up…sounds simple right??? Jump into the video lesson below and I’ll explain what all this means and how to identify when to use the down/up pick strokes effectively (alternating picking).

We’ll be working on a variation of Angeline The Baker during the lesson, so make sure you already have the basic version of the tune under your fingers we learnt here in Lesson 4.

If you would like to continue with this lesson, the full lesson is available to members, which:

  • Includes 2 video lessons;
