G’day and welcome to the first lesson in the 102 Flatpicking Guitar: Beginner’s Crash Course, where we’ll learn Banks of the Ohio (Carter Style). In this next level, we’ll continue to learn new techniques, new tunes and expand your ability and knowledge on the guitar.
In this first lesson of level 102, continuing where we left off, the first technique is a combination of melody played on the lower strings and rhythm guitar, in the Carter style of playing. Check out the full video lessons, tab, play-along & backing tracks below.
Make sure you are comfortable with the C F & G & G7 chords, as this arrangement requires these shapes.

Hi glad i found your site
a request if not to onerous; can the tabs be made available to load into tuxguitar it accepts midi, tef or tg type files.
tuxguitar allows slowing song and looping measures and for me I display on a large tv to practise it is very convenient no paper no music stand and I follow along listening to the audio
Thanks Don
Hi Don, thanks for being here! I’ve just uploaded the Guitar Pro file for this lesson. This will open in tuxguitar, let me know if it works ok, and I’m more than happy to upload the guitar pro files for the other lessons. Cheers, Heath.
Hi, I’ve really enjoyed the lessons so far. You’re instruction is very clear and well organized! Makes it very easy to follow and practice, I feel I’ve made measurable progress and I’m ready to keep going! I’m wondering when you will be uploading the rest of the lessons in Flatpicking 102? Do you have more resources for making further progress? Thanks!
Sharon Glett
Hi Sharon, I’m so glad you’ve found the flatpicking course helpful! I do have more lessons planned for the course, and will make sure to get them on the site in the near future. Cheers, Heath.
