G’day! In this banjo lesson we’ll take a look at the traditional Irish tune, Congress Reel. A challenging reel played in a melodic style, the tune is in A Dorian, a minor mode, played in standard tuning. Being the 2nd mode of G Major, it shares the same key signature and contains the notes A B C D E F# G.
In this lesson we’ll break down how to play the tune, focus on some exercises for tricky sections and play through two variations of the A Dorian scale in this tuning, a melodic pattern, and a single-string box pattern.
